Owlet Smart Sock Frequently Asked Questions

Every now and then, we get a question about Owlet that we have never seen before. We love that there are parents out there who think about every possibility and every choice. On the other hand, there are some questions that we often see on social media. We recently asked our Facebook and Instagram fans to weigh in and share their top Owlet Smart Sock questions. As promised, here are the answers to many of your frequently asked questions in Owlet.

Q: How long does it take to charge the sock?

ONE: The Owlet Smart Sock has a battery life of 16 hours. The Sock is powered by a rechargeable coin-cell battery (like the one on your wristwatch) and needs to be charged daily. The sock takes about four hours to charge, so you can usually achieve a full charge between naps. Many Owlet parents make the practice of connecting the Sock whenever it is not in use.

Q: Does the sock adjust as the baby’s foot grows?

ONE: The Owlet Smart Sock includes three sizes of fabric sock, so you can simply take the electronic Sock out of one fabric sock and get to the next size. Each fabric sock has velcro on it to help fit and secure the baby’s foot.

This guide helps you explain how to get a good Sock app, which is vital for reading correctly and avoiding fake alerts.

The Smart Sock is the first baby monitor to monitor your baby’s oxygen level and heart rate – the best indicator of your baby’s health – while he sleeps.

Q: Can I customize notifications?

ONE: No, notification zones are preset and cannot be changed. The Owlet Baby Monitor alert strategy was defined by a team of pulse oximetry specialists, pediatricians, neonatologists and pulmonologists. Babies’ heartbeats can fluctuate when they are very young and the alerts are designed to hit the sweet spot to avoid false alarms.

Q: Is it possible to get a false alarm for a low heart rate?

ONE: Improper Sock application may result in false notifications. To ensure the correct Sock application, see the customization guide here.

Another tip: when taking your baby out of the crib for feeding or changing his diaper in the middle of the night, remember to turn off the base station, as movement from swinging in a chair or your body blocking the signal may cause inappropriate readings and false alerts. Read our blog post about each of these Owlet alerts, what they mean, how to resolve them, and listen to how they sound.

The Owlet Smart Sock is designed to be used when the baby is sleeping, alone, in his own sleeping area (eg crib, crib, etc.).

Q: Is the Sock sensor off?

ONE: You do not need to turn off the sock, but if you want (if you are traveling and want to save the sock battery), follow these instructions.

Q: Is the Sock portable so I can send it to grandma or babysitter when my baby is asleep?

ONE: Yes, the Owlet Smart Sock is portable. The base station and Sock sensor are connected via Bluetooth, so even if Grandma does not have WiFi, the monitor can be used with the base station as an alert system. If you want to connect the base station to Grandma’s WiFi so you can see live heart rate and oxygen level in the app, follow these instructions to add a new WiFi network.

Q: Does Owlet tell me when my baby wakes up?

ONE: The Owlet is not designed to alert you if your baby wakes up in the middle of the night. Instead, it monitors your baby’s heart rate and oxygen and is designed to alert you if he or she falls out of the designated areas. We focus on the most important information you need to be calm when you go to bed.

Are you looking for a way to check if your baby is awake? Connect the camera to your smart sock to get a more complete picture of your baby’s well-being with the help of HD audio and video streamed directly to your Owlet app!

Q: Can my baby still wear leg pajamas or should the leg be exposed?

ONE: Yes, your baby can wear a PJ footie (or even another sock) over the Smart Sock. It is low profile so that it fits nicely in PJ.

Q: How does payment plan selection work?

ONE: Owlet partnered with a company called Affirm to offer payment programs. Thus, instead of paying the full amount in advance and at the same time, the Confirmation allows you to make payments (payment amounts, interest rates and terms vary depending on the applicant). You do NOT need to wait to receive your Owlet Smart Sock until your payments are completed. When you purchase and set up a payment plan with confirmation, your order will be processed and shipped as if you had paid in full. For more details and answers to even more confirmations, click here. To pay for the Owlet order with confirmation, select “Confirmation” at checkout.
